Why Approach
01
Every project starts with a design assessment, not a materials quote. We look at your home's architecture, street position, and how the entrance flows before we recommend anything. The result is a coherent plan, not a collection of decisions made on site.
02
Toronto's freeze-thaw cycle is one of the harshest in North America for masonry. We specify materials and base preparations that are engineered for the conditions, not just what's cheapest to install. Steps that look good for two years aren't finished work.
03
One point of contact. One crew. One clear timeline. We don't subcontract pieces out and hope they align. Everything is coordinated through us so the drainage, the steps, the walkway, and the lighting all work as a single design.

Understanding why problems happen helps you make better decisions about how to fix them. Here's what we explain to every homeowner we work with.
01
Most sunken walkways weren't installed on a proper compacted base. Toronto clay soil shifts with moisture and freezing. Without 8–12 inches of crushed stone beneath your interlock, settling is a matter of when, not if. A surface repair will sink again within two or three seasons.
02
Cracks in concrete steps almost always begin with water infiltration and freeze-thaw expansion. Once water enters a hairline crack and freezes, it expands with enough force to fracture stone. Patching the surface doesn't address the water pathway, so cracking continues from underneath.
03
Water pooling at the base of steps or along a walkway edge means water is moving toward the foundation, not away from it. Proper grading sheds water toward the street or yard. It's not a cosmetic issue — it's the single biggest variable in how long any front entrance lasts.
04
Not all stone or interlock is rated for Canadian freeze-thaw conditions. Absorption rates determine durability — a high-absorption product will spall within a few winters. We specify materials by absorption class and PSI rating, not just by appearance. It costs more upfront and lasts thirty years longer.

Homeowner reviews
"We'd been living with cracked steps and a sinking walkway for six years. We kept patching it and the problem kept coming back. Approach came in, explained exactly why it was happening, and built it properly from the base up. Two winters later it looks exactly as it did on completion day."
Jennifer & Mark T.
East York — Front Steps, Walkway, Railings
"Every other contractor gave us a quote without looking at the drainage. Approach was the first to walk the whole property and explain why the walkway kept failing. The design made sense before they started building."
Sandra L.
Leaside — Complete Curb Appeal Package
"The site was left clean every evening. The crew was respectful of the property. And the finished entrance looks like it belongs to the house — which the old steps never did."
David & Caroline R.
North York — Steps + Landing + Garden Wall
"Worth every dollar. We were selling the house and the agent said the new entrance added more perceived value than anything else we could have done. It sold in the first weekend."
Michael A.
Etobicoke — Front Entrance Upgrade
"I submitted photos on a Tuesday and had a site visit booked for that Friday. The whole process felt like working with a designer, not a contractor. Clear communication from start to finish."
